New ORC Advanced(TM) from Regenesis Steps Up Performance of Leading Accelerated Bioremediation Technology
California-based Regenesis, a world leader in the development and manufacture of innovative environmental remediation products, has introduced ORC Advanced (TM), the state-of-the-art technology for stimulating aerobic bioremediation of contaminated groundwater. Like its sister product Oxygen Release Compound or ORC (R), which the company introduced in 1995, ORC Advanced is formulated specifically for in-situ treatment of petroleum-based hydrocarbons (BTEX and MTBE) and other aerobically degradable contaminants in the groundwater environment. In the decade since it was first introduced, ORC has been utilized at more than 10,000 groundwater remediation sites worldwide.
San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- Regenesis, a world leader in the
development and manufacture of innovative environmental remediation products,
announces the introduction of ORC Advanced(TM), which the company describes as
the state-of-the-art technology for stimulating aerobic bioremediation of
contaminated groundwater. As the name suggests, ORC Advanced is an improved
version of Regenesis’ Oxygen Release Compound or ORC(R), which the company
introduced in 1995 and which has been used to remove petroleum hydrocarbons
(BTEX and MTBE) and other aerobically degradable contaminants at more than
10,000 sites worldwide.
ORC and ORC Advanced are designed specifically
for in-situ treatment of petroleum-based hydrocarbon contamination or any
aerobically degradable substance in the groundwater environment. Both products
are supplied as nontoxic, environmentally benign powders that are mixed with
water to form an injectable slurry, which is then pumped into the subsurface
contamination zone with readily available direct-injection equipment. Contact
with groundwater causes the material, over a period of months, to gradually
release molecular oxygen, which is then used by naturally occurring microbial
populations to flourish and rapidly degrade or break down the contaminants into
harmless end-products. In most cases, site remediation with ORC or ORC Advanced
is extremely cost-effective and simple, with minimal site disturbance, no
above-ground piping or mechanical equipment to be installed and/or maintained,
and no disposal of hazardous materials.
“ORC Advanced represents an
important step forward because it offers maximal, sustained oxygen release for
up to 12 months on a single injection,” said Stephen S. Koenigsberg, Ph.D.,
Regenesis’ Vice President for Research and Development. “Without an adequate,
sustained oxygen supply, the microbial breakdown of contaminants will slow down
sharply or stop altogether. ORC Advanced addresses this issue with greater
oxygen content (17 percent by weight) and a patented Controlled Release
Technology (CRT) that slows the rate of hydration and enables the continued free
movement of the liberated oxygen into soil and groundwater.”
Contaminants
that can be treated effectively with ORC or ORC Advanced include gasoline and
fuel additives (including BTEX and MTBE), diesel fuel, kerosene, jet fuel, gas
condensates, fuel oils, lubricants, bunker oil, PAHs, vinyl chloride (VC),
arsenic, certain pesticides/herbicides and certain industrial solvents
(aldehydes, alcohols and ketones). Results from recent ORC Advanced projects
will be presented and published at the Battelle-sponsored Eighth International
Symposium on In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation in Baltimore, Maryland, June 6-5
2005.
About Regenesis
Incorporated in 1994, Regenesis is the world’s
leading developer and distributor of injectable products used by environmental
engineers to facilitate the rapid, low-cost, and efficient cleanup of
contaminated-groundwater sites through accelerated natural attenuation. Other
injectable in-situ treatments are available from Regenesis for enhanced
bioremediation of anaerobically degradable compounds, including carbon
tetrachloride, certain pesticides and herbicides, perchlorate, nitrate,
explosives, dyes, CFCs, dichloroethenes (DCE), vinyl chloride, and a wide range
of metals. Regenesis is headquartered in San Clemente, California, with sales
offices across the U.S. and in Europe, the Mid-East, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan
